December 2024 Month in Review

I just can’t bring myself to take outfit photos outside when it’s below freezing, so today’s (very late) monthly recap is a compilation of some of my favorite winter outfits from the past couple of years. I hope you find inspiration in them—they certainly have me thinking I should break out some of these looks again. The plaid skirt is so stinking cute but unfortunately doesn’t fit at the moment… I guess that can be my motivation for the new year, ha!

What’s New?

  • There seem to be a handful of issues with my website (weird spacing, fuzzy images on my homepage, etc.). It’s on my to-do list to reach out to WordPress support about some of these things, so bear with me as I try to get that handled! It’s driving me nuts how it looks but at the same time… it’s the last thing I want to work on.
  • I had the best time back in Boise with my family for Christmas. My mom planned lots of fun surprises for us, including a live Christmas music show at a cool local venue and a “Secret Santa” type activity at the antique mall where we all had to find a gift in under an hour for the person whose name we drew. My mom drew me and found me the cutest Sundance jacket—I can’t wait to style it on the blog! Other things I got for Christmas were a new sleeping bag (desperately needed), Sorel snow boots (also desperately needed—and freaking cute), and some super cozy Christmas PJs. I’ve mentioned in the past how my family started doing Secret Santas for each other instead of buying every person a gift (we each get two people), and I love it so much. It makes the gifts more meaningful and less wasteful, and in a funny way it makes Christmastime feel less depressing when the holiday is over. I highly recommend it if you have a bigger family!

What I Watched

  • Snatch—My boyfriend picked this early 2000s movie for us on movie night. I can’t really decide how I feel about it. It seemed really slow, but other parts made me laugh out loud. Overall it was a really strange movie and probably not something I would recommend.
  • Monster—After months of watching this highly acclaimed anime, my boyfriend and I finally finished the show… and I was severely disappointed. So much build-up for such an anticlimactic ending!
  • It Ends with Us—After all the drama surrounding this movie of course I had to watch it. My brother, sister-in-law, and I actually started watching it on the plane home to Boise, but once clothes started coming off we all got too embarrassed to watch it in public. It was bad, as I expected (and what was with Blake Lively’s weird outfits??).
  • Elf—Believe it or not, I had actually never seen this classic Christmas movie before. It was fun but probably not something I would watch again.
  • Black Christmas—We watched this 1974 horror film on Christmas night. My siblings and I thought, “Oh, it’s probably going to be super cheesy…” So imagine our surprise when we all had nightmares and were jumpy for a few days—it was shockingly scary. I would actually recommend it if you like slasher/thriller films!
  • Juror #2—I thought this Nicholas Hoult movie was really interesting. I feel like with a few small tweaks it could’ve been a great film, but I still found it intriguing enough that I would recommend it if you like moral/courtroom dramas.
  • Emily in Paris—I finally got around to binging the newest season, after rewatching the first three while scrapbooking. It was fine (and the men were fine—how do they keep finding these hot guys of every nationality?), but I hate that pretty much the whole plot has become her switching back and forth between men. Ugh.

What I Read

  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil—I have a hard time judging this book fairly. When I first started reading it the last week of November, I was SO into it and found all the characters fascinating, especially after visiting Savannah and several of the locations back in October. But then life got really busy and I didn’t read for a couple of weeks. It was really hard for me to get back into the book, and I can’t decide if that was just a result from the break or if that means I didn’t like the second half of the book as much as the first. I wish I could have read it uninterrupted, but either way, it’s a really interesting true story, the perfect example of the saying “fact is stranger than fiction.”

December Spotify Playlist – Best of 2024

I spent the month of December listening, in order, to every monthly playlist I’ve made this year, which was like reliving the year through music. So I decided to make December’s playlist my Best of 2024—I chose my top two favorite songs and my favorite “new to me” song from each month. Obviously, I think the playlist is a banger. You can listen to my top 33 songs of 2024 here.

What I’m Looking Forward to in January

Honestly, January is the worst month of the year—it’s cold and dark, all of the fun of the holidays is over, and it feels like an impossible stretch of time until spring. BUT I am very excited to have something to look forward to this year, which is my brother’s 30th birthday party. I’m planning it, and while I’m more nervous for this one than other parties I’ve hosted (boys are so hard!), I’m still really excited for it.

  3. Love all your looks perfect for the winter cold months. The fuzzy images could be the company that is hosting your site. They look fine now.

    1. Thanks Allie! Yah, definitely an issue on WordPress’s end… but it’s been months and they haven’t fixed it! Grr.
