June was a busy month, but surprisingly one that went by slowly. I took some much-needed time off work to do nothing but scrapbook and binge TV (I can’t remember the last time I was so purposefully lazy!) which was just what I needed. I still miss the summer vacation of school days, but three days off work all to myself scratched a long-overdue itch.
What’s New?
- This month I road tripped to Grand Junction to visit one of my best friends, dog/house sat for my aunt, danced the night away at the Boulder Airport 1940s Ball, attended a good friend’s wedding, and drove 12 hours home to Boise. I keep telling myself that I need to plan fewer things… but there are just too many fun things to do!!
- June 11 marked two years since I graduated college, and June 27 marked two years at my current job—both milestones that have encouraged lots of reflection this month. I still think of myself in a “post-grad” phase of life, but soon enough I’ll be in my mid-20s! I’m not sure I am where I thought I would be at this point, so I’m working hard on defining my goals and figuring out how to manage my time, something I still really struggle with (and I wonder why, after listing the 40 things I did in June…).
Today’s Outfit
I took these photos on my grandpa’s farm in Utah while driving back from Boise—I just love it there and always try to take blog photos when I’m in the area. The scenery is so pretty, especially this time of year with the alfalfa in full “bloom.” I would have liked to shoot a couple of different outfits (I think a flowy white dress with cowgirl boots would look amazing here), but I was so crunched on space in my car that I couldn’t even fit my boots. Next time. I did make the cutest friend while shooting, though—a curious little fawn in the alfalfa kept inching closer to me every time I looked away! We played a little game of cat and mouse before she finally skipped off into the distance.
This isn’t the exact outfit I intended for my photoshoot, but I decided the casual top and denim shorts was a better combo for the backdrop than the skirt I had originally planned. I think this is a very cute and casual summer outfit, spiced up with the accessories—hat, sunglasses, purse, and layered gold necklaces.
Top Performing Blog Posts This Month
I used to share my top performing blog posts published in the month I’m reviewing (June, in this case), but since I’ve significantly scaled back the number of posts I share, I’ve decided to change this metric to include the top three viewed blog posts, period (published at any time, not just during the “reporting month”). I love to see my Bridgerton post getting lots of traffic with the release of the new season!

Favorite Outfits from June
- I’ve worn the work outfit on the left a couple of times over the years, and I just love the combination of different shades of blue. My summer work outfits are typically pretty casual, but every now and again I still like a more put-together look like this one.
- I wish I had saved the outfit on the right for the 4th of July! I wasn’t thinking, but the red western top and denim skirt seem so festive to me. I think it also would’ve looked really cute with my cowgirl boots.
What I Watched
- How I Met Your Mother—After months of casually watching this show with my boyfriend in our spare time, we finally finished it… and I was devastated by the ending. Hated the ending SO much, which seems to be a popular sentiment. Otherwise I thought the show was really funny, and I loved the characters.
- Bridgerton Season 3—This season was a disappointment. There were too many side plots, and I thought the editing/blocking/directing (whatever, I’m not a movie critic) was very choppy and not well-done, compared to the first two seasons. I didn’t read until after watching that there was a new showrunner this season, but I think you can definitely tell—and not in a good way!
What I Read
I’ve been trying to read more of the “classics” that I was never assigned in high school, so I finally got around to reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I have very mixed feelings about the book. On one hand, I thought most of it was really boring, and I had a hard time staying engaged. But on the other hand, I absolutely love the character development and the ending. So overall a mixed review. What do you think of the book—a favorite or fine with skipping?
June Spotify Playlist
This month’s playlist is all about Styx and Foreigner, since I saw them in concert this month! I also had a little bit of a Billie Eilish moment—I’m not typically a fan of her music, but there are a few songs I rediscovered in June. Check out the playlist here. I also compiled a 4+ hour upbeat party playlist for my friend’s housewarming party, which I was nervous about at first (I’m not sure I know what music is “cool” among my peers) but I think it ended up being a hit.
What I’ve Been Loving Lately
- Afternoon thunderstorms. I love when it rains in the summer, so I’ve been enjoying going on after-dinner walks around the neighborhood to soak in that earthy post-rain smell and watch the stormy sunset.
- My Amelia Chain Necklace from Kendra Scott. I really like that a lot of her necklaces are adjustable, and I’ve been wearing this one nonstop with another gold necklace as a way to shop my closet for that trendy layered jewelry look.
What I’m Looking Forward to in July
- I already made it back from my road trip to Boise, but otherwise I’m looking forward to having a slower month in July, since June was jam-packed with events.
- I have some family coming to town at the end of the month so I’m also excited to spend time with them!
