I can’t remember the last time I published a quick, casual blog post purely to showcase an outfit I wore recently—not to talk about the month I just had, or to go into detail about a costume I made. My long-time followers will remember my original days of blogging where I posted three times a week on my website, with just a short (cheesy) blurb to accompany my outfit photos.

I don’t think I’ll ever go back to posting that frequently, but I am trying to get back into the habit of documenting some of my outfits while I’m wearing them, rather than only doing photoshoots for scheduled monthly posts. I also remembered (way too late) that one of my goals for the year was to have everything in my closet photographed in at least one blog post. Now, there are some exceptions to this rule, but I like the idea of showcasing the entire breadth of my closet on my website (plus, then I would always have something to link to for “last worn here” in my cost per wear details). It’s hard to believe that there are some pieces I’ve had for years and years that still have never made it onto the blog.

All that to say, these goals of wanting to document my outfits more and wanting to feature every clothing item on my website align quite nicely. I wore this summery outfit two weeks ago, breaking the antiquated “no white after Labor Day rule” (though I will admit the white in combination with the light-wash shorts made it feel a bit too “peak summer” for a September outfit). The top, hat, shorts, and shoes had never been in a blog post before, so this was a winning outfit for sure.

The red and blue just scream summer to me. This is one of the looks I originally created in June based off my East Coast summer Pinterest board in preparation for my trip to Connecticut. I did wear the outfit in my one day in New York City, though sans hat. (I’m not sure why—the hat makes the look! Did you notice it’s a reference to the show Severance?) I never used to think I could pull off the hair-down-with-a-baseball-cap style, but now that my hair is short I think it’s super cute, especially when it’s crimped.

The top is a hand-me-down I got earlier in the year from my aunt. If you look closely, it has a faint, textured polka dot pattern to it. The back is absolutely adorable. I don’t care if you say peplums are very 2016, I still love them and will continue to wear them.

While we have had a few crisp mornings in Denver, it’s still been fairly hot in the afternoons—certainly not sweater weather. Today was the first day that was consistently overcast and even a little chilly, just in time for the official start to fall. I was resisting all the pumpkin-flavored things and decorations until the temperatures actually felt like autumn, but now I’m ready to get on board!
