Weekly Recap #41, 2024

Update on my Curly Girl Method experimentation: I have abandoned ship on the whole conditioner-only thing. Too greasy for my liking. So, I caved and bought new shampoo, though a cheaper kind than I had previously been using. I have been trying to be very scientific about the whole curly girl process, only changing one thing with each wash and taking notes about what is and isn’t working.

This weekend I tried plopping for the first time—which is basically putting your wet hair into a towel or t-shirt after the shower and securing it to your head so that the curls don’t get weighed down by gravity. You can kind of see the results in today’s cover photo—washed with shampoo and conditioner, plopped, no product, no brushing. It’s the waviest I’ve gotten it to look! But also, it kind of just felt like an unkept mess of tangles. Next time I will do more finger-combing before plopping and will try adding leave-in conditioner (or some kind of product).

black crop top printed cardigan ripped straight leg jeans white sneakers

Monday, October 7

I don’t wear this cardigan very often, but every time I do I’m reminded of how cute and comfy it is. While it doesn’t go with that much, I love it with this simple crop top and jeans for a casual weekend look (or in this case, a casual work-from-home look—something about the outfit just screams “weekend” to me though).

Crop Top: American Eagle, $8 ($0.44 per wear), last worn here | Cardigan: JCPenney, $18 ($0.78 per wear), last worn here | Straight Leg Jeans: Express, $15 ($0.34 per wear), last worn here | White Sneakers: Primark, $10 ($0.36 per wear), last worn here

printed work dress business casual beige flats

Tuesday, October 8

This is still one of my favorite dresses to wear to work—it’s so easy and comfy to throw on and go but always looks so polished. As much as I love fashion, I also have days where I just need a no-effort outfit!

Dress: JCPenney, $30 ($1.67 per wear), last worn here | Flats: Nordstrom Rack, $40 ($0.68 per wear), last worn here

black tank cabi printed jacket grey jeans metallic flats tjmaxx

Wednesday, October 9

I don’t think the photo does it justice but I absolutely love how today’s outfit turned out. It started with this super cute Cabi jacket, which I don’t wear nearly enough because I never know what to pair it with. I put on this simple black tank and then realized all my blue denim was dirty, so I opted for these grey jeans instead—not what I originally envisioned but I think it really works. I love how the jacket dressed the jeans up. And to add a little pizazz to the outfit, I completed the look with metallic heels! Will definitely be wearing this again!

Black Tank: JCPenney, $6 ($0.14 per wear), last worn here | Jacket: Cabi Outlet, $40 ($5.00 per wear) | Jeans: Express, $19 ($0.31 per wear), last worn here | Metallic Flats: TJ Maxx, $30 ($15 per wear)

Thursday, October 10

Another new-to-me outfit that I ended up loving. You may remember me talking about cleaning out my brother’s room over the summer. This dark green Banana Republic sweater is one of the goodies I took with me from his donate pile. It pairs so well with the brown accessories!

Sweater: Hand-me-down (originally Banana Republic) | Jeans: Express, $40 ($0.53 per wear), last worn here | Boots: Express, $23 ($2.09 per wear), last worn here | Belt: Sundance, $80 ($2.00 per wear), last worn here

Friday, October 11

My boyfriend and I kicked off our annual fall dates today with a trip to Anderson Farms, where we picked pumpkins, did the corn maze, and finished the night with Terror in the Corn, their haunted house attraction. It was so much fun, and I felt perfectly dressed for the occasion in my bellbottoms and cowgirl boots. I wore this outfit on my birthday last year and just love it!

Sweater: Clara Sunwoo, gifted for collaboration, $149 ($13.55 per wear), last worn here | Pants: Cavender’s, $70 ($14.00 per wear) | Cowgirl Boots: Ariat via Boot Barn, $180 ($9.47 per wear), last worn here

skulls tee t-shirt halloween cropped flared jeans black booties vivaia

Saturday, October 12

I invited my brother and sister-in-law over for dinner tonight so I kept things casual in my one Halloween shirt, which I usually only where once or twice a year (it definitely smelled like it had been sitting in a drawer since last October). I know I say this every time I wear this shirt, but I won it in a dance-off at a Halloween party when I was in middle school! Oh yeah.

Tee: Gift, last worn here | Jeans: Express, $40 ($0.52 per wear), last worn here | Boots: Vivaia, gifted by brand, $140 ($2.41 per wear), last worn here

. . . . .

Sunday, October 13

Just lounged about the apartment all day in a tee and running shorts. I felt like I was being productive but now that the day’s over, I’m wondering what it is I worked on all day…

. . . . .

Which of this week’s outfits is your favorite?

Miles of smiles,
Grace

  1. Love Thursdays and Saturdays outfits: simple but fun!

  2. I’ve been trying the curling hair for a while now. My hair dresser for years has been trying to have me let it go curly, but I struggle with it and end up straightening it or using a curling iron on it to tame the frizz defeating the process. I can’t wait to hear what works best for you.

    1. Yah I get that… I know you said you thought your hair looked frizzy this past weekend but I absolutely loved it for what it’s worth! I think it’s so cute how it is naturally. 🙂

  3. Lot’s of cute outfits! Wednesday and Thursday are my favorites because they are my much-needed inspiration for looking “put together” at the office!

    1. Thanks Frieda! I’ve been trying to dress a little nicer at work recently.

  4. Same, Wednesday and Thursday are my faves!
