Weekly Recap #47, 2023

I had the BEST week back in Boise with my parents for the holiday! It was really hard to say goodbye, but I’m so grateful I was able to visit (and show my boyfriend around my hometown for the first time). Usually I’m very much a homebody when I’m back in Boise, but my parents, boyfriend, and I really made the most of our visit—we went out almost every night to do some event around town. I love playing tourist in my own city! And, now that I’m over 21 (whoa, 24, how did that happen?!), I’m finally exploring some of the nightlife that the City of Trees has to offer.

It was a busy work-from-home day before my trip back to Boise for the holidays. Green and pink is one of my favorite color combos, so this has become a simple go-to outfit in the fall and winter.

My boyfriend and I got up bright and early to fly to Idaho! My parents picked us up from the airport, and then I gave the bf a tour of my childhood home. After remote work and dinner, the four of us played my favorite card game Euchre for the rest of the night.

Final work day before the long weekend, and boy was it hard to concentrate (especially being home). My dad, boyfriend, and I hiked in the Boise foothills in the afternoon and then we met up with my mom and brother for Geeks Who Drink trivia at Boise Brewing. We were tied for third place but lost in the tiebreaker, dang it.

How cute is this chartreuse sweater? Definitely a bolder color but I love it. It paired great with this studded leather jacket that I won in a giveaway. The jacket was originally $300! But every time I wear it a stud gets caught in my hair and falls off… thank goodness I didn’t pay that ridiculous price for it.

It was a relaxing morning before helping out in the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. It’s always my job to set the table, and making flower origami out of the napkins is my specialty. We had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, walked off some of the bloat around the neighborhood, and then plopped back down at the table for pie. I always see girls posting Thanksgiving outfits with little plaid skirts and ribbed sweaters, and while those outfits are super cute, they must be so impractical. I try to reach for loose or comfy things so I have room to grow, ha!

Friday, November 24

I re-wore the chartreuse sweater and grey jeans outfit from Wednesday for a surprisingly busy Black Friday around the city. We started with brunch with some family friends at Tupelo Honey and then went shopping at Brighton because my mom wanted one of their mystery boxes (in stores only, I think). Afterwards, the two of us got permanent jewelry together at a cute boutique, and then we all went to the Boise Festival of Trees, a fundraiser where different organizations decorate a Christmas tree for auction. I haven’t been to the event in years, so it was really fun to check it out again. They always have a wine tree that unsurprisingly goes for a lot of money!

After dinner, my dad, boyfriend, and I went to a bar downtown called Mad Swede where a musician was taking song requests to sing and play on the piano all night long. We closed the place down and had a blast.

Saturday, November 25

Not the most fun activity on a Saturday but something I desperately needed to do—test drive cars. I am in the market for something new and finally forced myself to go to the dealership. I think I know what car I want now, which is a big relief! But I’m still dreading all the other steps (and money) that will go into getting a new ride.

We all went out to a new-to-me pizza place for dinner that was absolutely delicious, and then my parents, boyfriend, and I checked out a speakeasy in downtown Boise called Thick as Thieves. We enjoyed ourselves, but the bar was expensive and a little too “young” feeling for our taste (loud music, cramped spaces, extremely dark, etc.). Definitely a fun and unique speakeasy experience, but I probably wouldn’t go back.

Sunday, November 26

I helped my mom put up some of our outdoor Christmas decorations (it was verrry cold), but otherwise it was an uneventful Sunday. After a delicious dinner at home, we all drove out to the Scentsy campus in Meridian to see their free annual Christmas light display! The light-up tunnel was absolutely mesmerizing. I’ve seen so many friends post couple pics in that tunnel before, so it was kind of fun for me to finally cross these Christmas lights off my Idaho bucket list.

. . . . .

Which of this week’s outfits is your favorite? I don’t have a good mirror setup at my parent’s house (as you can see), so I made my boyfriend take pics for me outside. He’s such a good sport.

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. I tend to go for comfy on Thanksgiving too! It sounds like you had a wonderful week “back home.”

    1. Thank you, Joanne! Yes, it’s funny – I consider Boise “back home” when I’m in Denver but then I consider Denver “home” whenever I’m anywhere else.
