It’s unofficially summer, baby!!! For the last two summers in a row I have been extremely busy—to the point where it never truly felt like summer. I’m determined to slow down and really soak it in this year. So naturally… I am starting off by spending the first three weekends of June out of town. But I’m thinking more after dinner walks, less time on my phone, and more workdays on the deck might help me enjoy the warm weather a little more.

What’s New?

  • I’ve been feeling a little stressed this week because I am taking a three-hour exam this Friday to get my Certified Associate in Project Management certificate. I started taking an online course for it back in November (which was very dry—and took me forever to finish) so I’m looking forward to finally taking the test and hopefully being done with it already. Fingers crossed I pass on the first try!
  • I think I mentioned this a bit in April’s monthly recap, but I have been feeling SO inspired lately. It’s so refreshing after what feels like years of not-so-exciting, begrudged content creation. I am constantly getting ideas for videos and have been trying lots of new techniques to grow on Instagram and TikTok. I think they have been working—on Instagram, at least—because I have been getting way higher views this past month! I’m really proud of myself and all of the content I have made.

Today’s Outfit

Today’s dress and shoes were both sent to me for recent collabs—and I can’t stop wearing either. I am trying to be pickier about the brands I work with, so even though this dress is from Amazon, I paid close attention to the fabrics this time to see if it would feel cheap. I’m happy to report that the dress is very comfy and feels more like a t-shirt. It’s the perfect thing to throw on and go in the summer, which is exactly the type of dress I have been looking to add to my closet. My only complaint is that it’s a little long—so I just folded under the elastic waist to make it an inch shorter. It’s so cute for summer, especially with a denim jacket for those cooler nights!

What I Watched

  • A Real Pain—I wanted to watch this after it won a couple of awards at the Oscars this year, but I didn’t end up liking it very much. It was “good” by critic standards but just one of those movies that was so cringeworthy, it was hard for a lay person like me to watch.
  • Dream Scenario—My mom and I went on a Nicolas Cage bender when I visited her for Mother’s Day, and this was our first watch—a recent release. I actually really liked it and thought it was akin to a “Black Mirror” episode. Creepy and sad and something I’m still thinking about.
  • Face/Off—Another Nicolas Cage movie, I thought this one was fun, albeit cheesy. I’ve seen it referenced a couple of times so it feels good to finally cross it off the list.
  • Con Air—Annnnd our final Nic Cage movie, I liked this one more than Face/Off, though I would say they were pretty similar in terms of action and fun cheesiness.
  • Another Simple Favor—My friend and I saw the first movie together when we were freshman year roommates in college, so it seemed only fitting to watch the sequel together when she was in town visiting. It was entertaining enough and—dare I say—better than I expected until about the last third of the movie, where it just got unhinged. But the setting and outfits were all quite something to look at.

What I Read

  • God of the Woods by Liz Moore—I finally got out of my reading slump, thanks to this book. It was well-written, made for a quick read, and kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller. My only complaint is that it has a lot of time skips and characters, so it’s a hard book to read intermittently.
  • The Housemaid by Freida McFadden—I only picked up this book to attend a new-to-me book club in the hopes of meeting more girls my age. Unfortunately for me, the book club was cancelled, which means I wasted time and money on this awful book. I really can’t believe it’s so popular and has a 4.3 rating on Goodreads. It was filled with plot holes and inconsistencies and felt like something a high schooler would write. And apparently they’re making a movie based on it?? I don’t understand.

May Spotify Playlist

May’s Spotify playlist consists mainly of new-to-me Taylor Swift songs that my coworker’s daughter introduced me to and karaoke songs from when my friend and I stumbled across karaoke night at the Irish pub we visited for her around-the-world themed birthday weekend.

What I’ve Been Loving Lately

  • Following trends on TikTok. I have historically not been a very trendy person, whether that be in clothing or in content creation, but there have been so many funny trends on the app lately that I’ve finally been roped into participating. And I have to say—I’ve actually been having a ton of fun making the trendy videos. Who knew! I guess I should have “played the game” of social media a little sooner…
  • Lowfat Babybel cheese. I used to hate these as a kid whenever my mom bought them, but now I think they make such a good and yummy snack. They’re stupid expensive but so convenient that I keep forking over the money.

What I’m Looking Forward to in June

  • June will be another busy month! This weekend I’m hiking part of the Colorado Trail with my brother and sister-in-law—28 miles (I think) across three days. I haven’t camped at all yet this year so I’m excited to get a whole weekend outside! It might be a wee bit chilly though… and wet…
  • I will also be making a weekend trip to Grand Junction to see my friend. My boyfriend is coming with me this time so we’re going to do a wine-tasting tour in Palisade! I’ve only been to one winery there before but I still think about that bottle of sparkling rosé.
  • And my last weekend trip of the month is going to my grandpa’s cabin in Utah with a handful of my cousins as a mini family reunion. I haven’t seen most of them in years so it will be really fun to catch up!

  1. Love this cute fit! Well done on trying new trends for Tik Tok and Instagram: I am too lazy to take the time! We have nothing planned for the rest of June but I want to go to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and have a picnic at Piedmont Park.
