Weekly Recap #32, 2024

cruise ship carnival cruises pool deck pool day back of ship mexico pacific ocean

Got back from my first cruise and now I’ve just been trying to readjust to normal life! I had such a great time, and the vacation felt really long, in the best way possible. One of my favorite parts was dressing up every night, so I’m really excited to share this week’s outfits.

This is kind of a dressy work-from-home outfit, but I wanted something simple that didn’t require much thought—hence, a dress, which I always pair with the same necklace and flats.

Today was super busy at work as I rushed to get everything done before my vacation, but I did manage to cross everything off my to-do list—it felt so good going into the cruise having accomplished all the things I needed to in order to fully relax! I’ve worn this outfit several times but never with these sandals (I don’t think)—not my favorite shoes with the cardigan but I just wanted to throw on something comfy.

We flew to Long Beach this morning and spent the afternoon walking along the beach and exploring the pier. I recently rediscovered these shorts in my drawer and have been wearing them nonstop lately—they’re just the perfect length!

We grabbed breakfast in our hotel before Ubering over to the ship boarding area! We had to wait in a couple of different lines, show passports, etc. but the process wasn’t too grueling before we finally got on board. We did our safety training first and then went straight to the lido deck for food and poolside lounging! This matching set was kind of a fancy outfit for boarding, but I’d never worn it out before and thought it would be festive for my first cruise day. I paired it with a pretty peridot necklace to bring out the green in the print.

For dinner, I swapped tops and accessories to make the pants a little more dressed up for a “night out” on the ship. Originally I had intended on pairing heels with this look, but I just wasn’t in the mood for that tonight. We spent time at the on-board casino after dinner, visited a piano bar, and attended the late-night comedy show.

It was our first at-sea day, so I spent most of the day lounging on the deck looking at the ocean, with a drink in hand! I bought this scarlet crochet swim coverup at TJ Maxx right before my trip and am so glad I did—I wore it at least once every day. And I love that it has long sleeves so I feel a little more protected from the sun. Red kind of became the theme color of the trip because it’s what I ended up wearing the most!

Friday was “elegant night” so I changed into this incredible red dress from Clara Sunwoo. When I was first sent it a couple of weeks ago, it ended up looking and feeling a lot fancier than I expected. I wasn’t sure where I would be able to wear it, but I’m so glad I decided to bring it on the cruise! I tried to dress it down a little with a raffia clutch, nude heels, and a couple of layered necklaces (I love the turquoise and red together). I think it turned out so cute and I got a ton of compliments.

After dinner we took a couple of group photos with the ship photographers before making our way back to the casino for the night.

Saturday, August 10

Today was our first stop—Cabo! We woke up in Mexico and took a dinghy to shore, where we boarded a small sailboat for our “sail and snorkel” excursion. We took photos in front of the famous Lovers Beach, which is the southernmost beach on the Baja California Peninsula. They served us chips and guac and lunch on the boat, and we snorkeled for about an hour before “sailing” back to shore (except, unfortunately, there didn’t end up being enough wind to sail). I just wore a swimsuit and my scarlet coverup all day, though I got a little too much sun!

I changed into this orange maxi dress that I bought the last time I was in Puerto Rico for the evening festivities. We sang karaoke, grabbed dinner, and gambled again.

Orange Dress: Marshall’s, $22 ($7.33 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($0.37 per wear), last worn here | Clutch: Amazon, $16 ($5.33 per wear)

Another at-sea day meant more lounging. I had packed real outfits for the daytime but really only ended up wearing a swimsuit and coverup. We lounged on the deck some more today, and I spotted a sea turtle just swimming past the ship! I’ve never seen one before so it was very exciting. We also attended a couple of trivia sessions today—the first was “Friends” themed and the second was a music lyric challenge.

For dinner I changed into this flowy maxi dress, one of my favorites. The whole group hung out tonight (my boyfriend, his parents, his brother, and his brother’s girlfriend) and we had so much fun watching an 80s tribute band perform and then raking it in at a Blackjack table we had all to ourselves.

    1. Thanks Mireille! The red one is sooo pretty!

  2. You have some really fabulous cruise outfits! I enjoyed dressing up most nights for dinner too.

  3. You look stunning in every single cruise outfit! The red dress or rather red gown is of course the cream on top of the pie. Sounds like you had the most wonderful holidays.

    1. Thank you, Frieda!!

  4. I love your cruise style, especially the dresses! Would you consider leaving links on your posts to directly purchase the clothing items shown?

    1. Thank you! I don’t shop new very often, so almost all the clothing I share isn’t available anymore. I used to link similar items when sharing my outfits but nobody ever clicked the links, so I decided it wasn’t worth the time/effort. If I wear something new that’s still online then I do try to link it! It’s just not often.
