The theme for this month’s Thrifty Six collaboration is denim, and I knew right away I wanted to style this fabulous denim dress! I bought it at my favorite consignment store in Las Vegas, Alt Rebel, a couple of years ago but have somehow never shared it to the blog until now.

The dress is from Eva Mendes’ clothing line, which seems obvious since it has that bodycon, va-va-voom look that is her signature (specifically, I’m imagining her role in Hitch). When a bodycon dress you find in a secondhand store fits you like a glove, you have to buy it. It’s just a rule.
Thankfully, the denim of this dress is very stretchy and breathable, so it still fits me now (even though a lot of my other snugger-fitting dresses have not been fitting lately!). The silver snaps down the front are all completely functional, which is both a blessing and a curse—every time I got in and out of my car while taking these photos, I heard a “snap snap snap” and looked down to find a thigh-high slit that wasn’t there before. The fun part, though, is the possibility of leaving some of the top buttons undone for an even sexier look.

How cute is that low-cut back?? The only downside is that you can’t wear a normal bra with this dress—the cut is just low enough where you can see a bit of your bra poking out. Instead, I just wore my favorite sticky bra with it ($19 at Target), but I’ve really been wanting to try those heat-activated Cake nipple petals that everyone keeps talking about.
I paired the dress with bright yellow block sandals and one of my favorite Kate Spade purses, this little lavender floral number. The perfect accessories for spring. And, I figured the outfit wouldn’t be complete without a hot pink lipstick. I love how it came together!

This dress is actually the only thrifted denim item I own. I don’t have any secondhand jeans and, in fact, I rarely shop for pants at all in thrift stores. I’m just not patient enough since it’s hard to find flattering pants on a good day. Instead, I have a problem with thrifted dresses… and always go straight to the dress section when shopping secondhand. I just have the best luck there, plus I think it’s so fun to thrift a one-of-a-kind dress! I have to actively make myself browse the other sections…

I’ve only worn this dress out once before, for my birthday dinner in 2021—which is a shame! It’s so fabulous, I should wear it more often. I just don’t know where to wear it. Even with the casual denim fabric, it feels a little more upscale because of the silhouette. It could be cute for a nicer date night in the spring and summer. I also think it would look great layered over a white turtleneck, with a felt hat and mid-calf booties, in the fall. The only problem is that I don’t have a felt hat or a white turtleneck, ha! Where would you wear this outfit??

Be sure to check out my thrifty friends’ denim outfits below. And please please please let me know if you want to join the group in my place! I’ve still been trying to post with them since we haven’t found a replacement yet, but I don’t think I’ll be able to post in this group anymore after this month. They might just have to become the Thrifty Five instead.

“I don’t have a lot of thrifted denim but this jacket is my favourite. Many years ago, a friend gave me this Gap jacket but I didn’t wear it as I had another one already. Consequently, I almost gave it to the charity shop. But then I saw a trend for patches on denim jackets so I decided to try a little DIY with patches representing my favourite things, such as music and cats. When I pulled it out of the wardrobe for these photos, I remembered that I had two more patches that I hadn’t yet put on, so I quickly added those too! And I’m not done yet… there’s still more space to fill!”
“April’s T6 theme is ‘Denim Days’… when it comes to ‘bang for your buck’, this outfit definitely delivers! Look at the volume of denim fabric in this oversized shirt… and yet more in the capacious cargo jeans – they’re enormous! It’s all menswear so I’m vamping it up with a cheeky denim bra. A flash of utilitarian lingerie is just enough sass to make it sexy!”
“I had a few bad buys on Vinted lately, and it really put me off buying something again. But I didn’t have a pre-loved denim item in my closet! What to do? And then I remembered I had once bought a denim blouse on Vinted. I guess I sold it off pretty quickly as I can’t even remember wearing it, but here is the proof! It’s too oversized, don’t like that. Perhaps it’s time to look for a more fitted one as I think denim blouses are super cool! And I actually like double denim a lot. Weird for someone who doesn’t like jeans!”
“This thrifted denim skirt made its first appearance for our first Thrifty 6 post nearly four years ago. But it was white back then. It ended up getting all stained and dirty so I dyed it. I love finding creative ways to give new life to old unwanted clothing. A little dye goes a long way! Because I didn’t originally style this outfit for a thrifty challenge, the only other preloved item is my rainbow snakeskin backpack.”
“I couldn’t pass up these jeans while thrifting last year. The two-toned effect was super fun and they fit so well. Everything except the sling bag is preloved and was perfect for our spring weather.”
. . . . .
I hope your week is off to a great start, and thanks for stopping by the blog today!
Miles of smiles,
Grace
