Weekly Recap #27, 2024

I had the absolute best week in Boise with my parents. But it wasn’t long enough! I wish I had taken the entire week off work… and that I had planned to stay two weeks instead of one. Oh well, now I know for next time. Every time I visit Boise I realize just how much I miss it. Maybe someday I’ll find my way back there…

Monday, July 1

After my remote workday I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening working on cleaning my brother’s room. It’s so much easier going through someone else’s stuff than my own because I always end up feeling too attached! My mom was saying one of our good family friends took photos of all her children’s artwork and turned it into a coffee table book, which I think is a genius idea.

I kept it very casual today. My shorts used to be very short but I decided to cut the bottoms and unroll the raw hem to make them a little longer. They don’t go with everything now but I think they paired nicely with this pink tee.

Pink Tee: Old Navy, $8 ($2.00 per wear) | Denim Shorts: H&M, $25 ($0.83 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($0.41 per wear), last worn here

Tuesday, July 2

I worked today also, with a three-hour long meeting in the afternoon (I threw on a more professional top for Zoom). In the evening I grabbed drinks with my oldest brother, who still lives in town, at his favorite bar. I haven’t really lived in Boise since turning 21, aside from college summers, so I don’t really know much about the nightlife. It seems like there are lots of cool bars, though! I’d love to explore them some more on my next extended visit.

If you’ve read some of my recent weekly recaps, you know I’ve been complaining about my favorite pair of denim shorts being too short now. I finally replaced them with this pair from JCPenney, which are a 5-inch inseam. They feel much more comfortable but aren’t so long that I look like a granny.

Olive Green Knit Tank: Francesca’s, $15 ($1.50 per wear), last worn here | Denim Shorts: JCPenney, $22 ($22 per wear), buy here | Brown Sandals: DSW, $19 ($0.21 per wear), last worn here

Wednesday, July 3

I took today off work and treated my dad to a round of golf as a belated Father’s Day gift. We’ve never golfed together before (aside from the range) so it was a ton of fun. We grabbed tostones and sangrias at Wepa, the Puerto Rican restaurant in town, to cap off our morning together.

In the afternoon my mom and I went antique shopping, which is always entertaining. We didn’t end up buying anything but found lots of funky items! And then we finished the day playing trivia at a local bar with some of our family friends—jam-packed day but a great one. I haven’t worn this palm print top at all yet this summer but always enjoy pulling it out. As you can see, I bought those same denim shorts in two washes.

Palm Print Top: H&M, $15 ($2.14 per wear), last worn here | Denim Shorts: JCPenney, $22 ($22 per wear), buy here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($0.40 per wear), last worn here

Thursday, July 4

Our family friends came over for brunch this morning, a 4th of July tradition, and ended up spending the entire day with us, which was a blast. Tons of delicious food and a few rounds of Euchre, our favorite card game, in the afternoon. I spent the night packing and popped out to the deck to watch what fireworks we could see from our house.

I wish my outfit was a little more festive—I think a bandana or fun jewelry would’ve made it pop more—but I loved breaking out this red “picnic blanket” top for the first time in a while. It’s the only branded thing I ever bought from my university’s bookstore (it has a Denver logo embroidered near the hem).

Red Plaid Top: University bookstore, $16 ($2.00 per wear), last worn here | Denim Shorts: JCPenney, $22 ($11 per wear), buy here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($0.40 per wear), last worn here

Friday, July 5

I decided to drive through Utah on the way back to Denver so I could a) see my grandpa at his farm and b) have a shorter driving day (it’s 8 hours to the farm and then 8 hours to Denver, as opposed to 12 hours in one day on the other route). So my mom and I drove my car today to Cedar City. It stunk having to spend an additional day driving just because it cut my time short in Boise, but it was so nice to see my grandpa. We played cards and went out to dinner. I also took some blog photos and made the cutest little fawn friend while doing so. She was SO curious and kept creeping closer and closer to me! Look at her little spots! Since it was just a driving day I didn’t wear anything cute.

. . . . .

Saturday, July 6

We squeezed in one more round of cards this morning and then I set off on my 8 hour drive back to Denver through the Rockies. The 4th of July traffic was terrible, but I was glad to have a much shorter drive this time.

Sunday, July 7

I slept in (exhausted after all the road tripping) and spent the day running errands and catching up on blog work. I hadn’t intended on taking a break from the blog the week I was home, but I was just so busy with other stuff and wanted to live in the moment that I didn’t end up posting anything.

It was a little cooler today, hence the jeans and sneakers. I think these shoes make my feet look huge but whatever, I love the fluffiness!

Light Purple Top: Francesca’s, $15 ($1.50 per wear), last worn here | Cropped Flared Jeans: Express, $40 ($0.54 per wear), last worn here | Fluffy Sneakers: Thrifted Steve Madden, $20 ($1.57 per wear), last worn here

. . . . .

Which of this week’s looks is your favorite? I can’t believe we’re already a week into July. I really need to start soaking in summer before it passes me by.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
